Mau – Simple Things

Do you know what, I think drum & bass is such a good genre of music when it’s done properly. Mau‘s soulful vocals matched with this laid back bassline is a perfect mix to sing along to. This has been on replay a few times for me… woops

Freedom is a LIE

“Are we really free? Or is it a concept we are taught to believe that doesn’t really exist?”

Anything we do in our daily life is supposedly a free choice. We CHOOSE what food we buy at the supermarket and also whether we lead a healthy lifestyle or not, we CHOOSE when we want to go out and where, we CHOOSE what clothes we want to wear every day, we CHOOSE who we want to vote for, what house to buy etc.
Similar to my last long post “Brand or Brainwash”, I believe our lives are also brainwashed (I’m also starting to think that the film “The Matrix” is based on real life, lol). Derren Brown guesses what word a person is thinking of not by mind reading, but by influencing them subconsciously in such a way that will make them think of that particular word. For example if the word is “giraffe” he will place images of giraffes everywhere, so it looks natural but still prominent. The person will then believe that they thought of the word “giraffe” on their own without external influence. if you’ve seen any of his programmes you will know this. This is  just one method of external/subconscious influence. Another is keeping information from you, to make you believe that what you know is the only choice available – the most important method.
I will attempt to explain my reasoning via 3 examples: Health & Lifestyle, Education & Work and Politics.

Health & Lifestyle

The first point I want to make, is that it is becoming increasingly easy and cheap to lead an unhealthy lifestyle. Fizzy drinks, ready-made meals, takeaways, snacks (crips, chocolate, sweets etc) are all becoming so cheap to buy, but mainly they are so convenient. As people are becoming more and more lazy, they want food to be ready faster, and cooking is slowly becoming a greater chore. In addition to this, fast-foods are packed with additives and flavourings that make them so addictive and delicious. Even those that do cook at home, tend to use ready-made sauces and pastries. Thanks to Dolmio, anyone can make an Italian Bolognese in under 15 minutes! Isn’t that convenient?! Meat and fish, fruit & veg are also becoming increasingly expensive whilst these “food-like” products are becoming increasingly cheaper. Again there’s also the ethical issue of animal farms, GM foods etc etc, and if you want organic foods, that’s an extra cost that many can’t afford, even if they have the best intents.
Next, many companies deliver food directly to your door; from supermarkets to fast-food restaurants and take-aways. If you can get your food delivered to your door, why would you ever leave your house?
Gym memberships are also an extra expense that make keeping fit more difficult, and after working a 9-5 who would want to go to the gym when they can watch the latest episode of Eastenders? Of course there’s always the option of doing home work outs, but that requires a hell of a lot more motivation. Once you’re at the gym you’ve got no choice, you’ve got to do something. At home you have a TV, your phone, a couch, bed, Xbox etc… all so much more entertaining than the gym. I didn’t used to believe in going to the gym until I tried it. The feeling you get during and after a workout doesn’t compare to anything else. It’s so addictive, and the more often you do it, the more addictive it becomes, it starts to overtake your life, your eating habits fall into place, you become more happy, positive, I can’t speak up about exercise enough. I’ve also made some good friends, none my age (mostly mothers, 30+) but that doesn’t matter when you’re all there for the same reason. You just need to break free from the “lazy-cycle”.
Nowadays people don’t communicate in person anymore, phone calls are becoming rarer. People prefer to communicate via Facebook and Whatsapp and stunt on Instagram with money that they don’t have and Jordans that they tried on in the shop once. I remember the good days when friends would say “knock for me”, before going to the park to play football. Now you go to a school and a group of friends would sit there in silence communicating with each other on their phones.
From birth, children are growing up around technology. How can you give a toddler an iPad, then when you take it away, you think it will accept the stuffed teddy bear, book, barbie doll (barbie dolls have also been becoming increasingly fake, big boobs and small waist – bad role models for small girls – size zero fad) or football? Hell NO! It will cry and cry until you give the iPad back. I don’t know why technology is so addictive. I wish I did, I really do.
I believe technology could be a useful tool to learn if you use it properly. Similarly with television. However 98% of the content is created to waste time, to make you dumber and  to kill brain cells. You won’t get far in life watching Big Brother and TOWIE. Those people are famous for being stupid. YOU made them famous by watching them. Joey Essex is famous for being an absolute twat. Now as much as I also adore Joey, you can’t help but wonder how he got to that age without being able to tell the time or blow his nose.
I will explain why this is all relevant at the end, if you’re completely and utterly confused now.

Education & Work

If you look at the price of higher education in some of the most unequal countries (UK and USA for example), the fees are extortionate. I am in the process of doing some of my own research regarding the correlation between university fees and the development of a country (Development measured in 2 ways: the Human Development Index and the Happy Planet Index). Not only are these systems extremely messed up, as only a small proportion of people ever pay off their university debts, but also, it means that less people can further their education… something that should be a standard right for everyone.
This year I had 7 hours a week at university, whilst having to pay £9000. The year comprised of two 11 week terms (for the sake of simplicity, I’m including our field week and reading week within the 11 weeks). Term 3 is just an exam term, we did have 2 revision lectures totalling 3 hours all together. for those 22 weeks (including the 3 hours in term 3) we had a total of 157 contact hours. That’s 157 hours in 1 year, equalling just over £57 an hour. I think you can do the rest of the maths  (minimum wage for an 18 year old is £5.13).
In addition to this, when most, if not all children leave school at the age of 16 or 18, they don’t know how the law works, how the monetary system works, how to buy a house, how to get a good job, how to balance your diet or look after your health etc. These are all extremely important things that everyone needs to know, however they are simply not part of the curriculum… because if they were… boy there would anarchy and outrage.
It is becoming increasingly difficult to find work, 0 hour contracts are becoming more and more common and full-time jobs are starting to become extinct. The truth is, companies make much more profit hiring 10 casuals to work 39 hours a week on part-time fees, than to pay 8 full-timers to work 40 hours a week. There are so many loopholes, that quite frankly should be completely illegal! Minimum wage is far lower than the living wage and benefits are far too easy to acquire. Children are a reason to claim benefits. If you think about it… how sick and deluded is that? You’re bringing a person in this world, without the ability or funds to look after them. You’re bringing a child into poverty and struggle just so you can have some extra cash from the government?

Politics

Now I’m sure I don’t have to explain to you how corrupt the political system is all over the world. Capitalism DOES NOT WORK, as stated by well-known 21st Century Marxist thinker David Harvey. Capitalism is a system that searches for profit everywhere, it does not care who is sacrificed or who gets hurt, it has no morals or ethics. It’s a system that aims to make the rich richer, whilst the 99% end up suffering as a consequence. It is a system that aims to distribute money and transfer it from the 99% to the 1%.
With this said, I would like to state that the government is not in charge. The government APPEARS to be in charge, however it is the corporations and banks who have the most power, as they have the most money. People need to stop blaming governments for the bad that goes on in the world, I’m certain the majority of governments really do enter in to power with the best of intentions, however when banks and corporations fund their election campaigns and then say “I helped you get into power, now do as I say and change the tax laws”… it becomes a tricky situation. Why is it that banks are allowed to carry out illegal activities, causing millions of people to go into debt, yet not a single person is jailed..
You only have to go as far as the Occupy Movement (such as Occupy Sun) Facebook pages/website/twitter accounts, or the Anonymous movement or even Green Peace to understand the corruption that is going on that is being hidden from us.

Explanation

Now I will attempt to give my explanation for why the above is happening. You may think I’m crazy etc, however when you see the evidence for yourself and make sense of it, you will understand too.
Essentially, I think the way the system is set up is a means of population control (not in terms of size… as it’s obvious the population is increasing rapidly and little is being done to stop it). There’s a reason that 25% of the UK population is obese, and with such low food prices on junk food, this number is only going to increase. Obesity brings about numerous health issues, including diabetes, high blood pressure, arthritis etc and with the privatisation of the NHS, this is going to bring huge amounts of money to the companies. Once again this is a way of capitalism. It’s a positive feedback loop that is exactly the same with smoking. Everyone knows smoking kills but because it’s such a huge business (including anti-smoking products) that brings in masses amounts of money, it will never be illegal.
Next, if you’ve noticed the population is getting dumber and dumber with each generation thanks to technology, television and media, whilst only an elite few are getting smarter and developing. If those with the most power wanted us to all be equal, they would not hide things from us, or hack our mobile phones, they would not assassinate powerful activist leaders. All in all, they’re trying to dumb us down so that we’re easier to control and manipulate. They’re caging us in, so that it’s harder to break free.
You don’t really have freedom. If you did you would not be punished for expressing yourself outside of the system, you would not go to jail or be murdered for trying to break free. If you were really free, you would not be stuffed into the system where everyone is treated unfairly, you would not be tested in the same way as everyone else. We need a new system that works in favour of the 99%.

  • [Thought of the Week]

"Maybe cheating in a relationship isn't the worst thing you could do, maybe it's just human nature?"

Remember when you were a child, and your parents would tell you you're not allowed to eat sweets, or make a mess in your bedroom, and you'd do the complete opposite and crave it even more just because you're not allowed? Or if you're on a diet, you know you're not allowed cake or carbs, but simply because you know you're not allowed it, you want it even more? Well surely the same applies in relationships?
Firstly, I want to start by saying we're not perfect, but perfection is something we should strive towards. Honesty is the best policy.
A friend of mine is genuinely one of the loveliest people I know, with the best heart and the best intentions and I don't want to show him in a negative light whatsoever, simply provide you with an alternative idea. I've known him for a few years, however we only started speaking properly about a year ago. We both found each other attractive, blah blah blah, so we decided to book a hotel room. He ignored me for a few days, so obviously something was wrong, then he told me there's another girl he loves (obviously I didn't know this before), as they weren't together. I didn't think much of it, actually I was extremely envious of this girl, and that she has someone in her life that is so dedicated and faithful. A few months later, conversation escalated, and we once again decided to go hotel, and a few days beforehand he once again cancelled. This time I was pretty angry and upset, because he'd lead me on and then cancelled. Obviously we're not together but I'm my own person too at the end of the day and don't want to be lead on.
Another few months later we started talking, innocent conversation about gym, films etc (this time via dm on twitter as I deleted his number and vice versa, I assume), and I had calmed down over the previous incident, he was a genuinely lovely person and I admire the faithfulness to his yet to be girlfriend, I hope I find someone like that in the future. But anyway, we decided to have a gym session together, as we live near each other we went to the park, and for the majority of it, it was a really good session, fun, productive (my legs KILLED the following day) but there was sexual tension, especially towards the end. My back was super sore from gym the previous day and he offered a massage, it was rubbish and he didn't get very far unfortunately as he was starting to give in, and couldn't resist the attraction any longer. Not a lot happened as I stopped him, before it escalated too far. I'd hate for my future husband to cheat on me, so I could only give this couple the same respect (they were together a few months at this point). The following day he thanked me, and was grateful for stopping him.
The point of this example is, I know my friend loves his girlfriend very much but none of us are perfect and we all give in to temptation now and again. Many males/females cheat because they have a craving, and a hoe gets in the way that has no respect for the relationship and only wants his/ her needs fulfilled, few will have a conscience and stop anything

Alternatively, on a separate occasion I was speaking to another friend about this topic. He told me that he's seen a sidechick/man save many relationships. His reasons were that if you have an argument with your partner, instead of ending the relationship, you go to see a sidechick/man, relax, then go back to your partner happy and proceed as normal. I disagree with his reasoning however I see the point behind it.
As long as you don't make a habit out of temptation, and are honest... maybe we're too extreme when it comes to cheating? I disagree with cheating, and don't condone it, however this is just a thought. Everyone get's bored of everything eventually if you get too high a dose, it's just a matter of balance.
