Courtney Bennett – Motives

If I’m honest, I haven’t been keeping up with Courtney Bennett for a longggg time! I saw her support Omarion a few months ago and that’s it. Now I hear motives and I’m kicking myself for not keeping up! What a talent! Amazing vocals, story telling and rapping 478298465x better than most guys these days. I love the concept for the video too to whoever did that.

If YA DONT KNOW, ya do now ;)

YDK asks: Rough Copy || Same Formula Video

Rough Copy shot to fame with their appearance on X Factor and did very well. They recently opened for Omarion at Musicalize, too. YDK got the chance to interview them and ask how they thought the performance went.

YDK: You killed your performance at Musicalize. How did you find opening up for Omarion in Camden?

Rough Copy: It was Immense. As supporters of B2K and especially Kaz being a Fan of both B2K and Omarion’s solo career it was an honour to grace the stage and support him. We felt like we made part of history.

YDK: Did you get to meet him? If so, what is he like? Did he give you any advice or say anything interesting?

Rough Copy: Yes we was able to to meet the man himself and we must say he is the most humble person you could meet, its funny because you have a perception of artists and when you finally meet them it could go two ways but for us it went the right way.

YDK: Another group, Status were also performing at Musicalize. Do you feel like there was any competition or tension between the two of you?

Rough Copy: No competition at all we know the boys pretty well as we shared some of the x.factor journey with most of them. We are in two separate paths of music so no tension was or is present.

YDK: How much of a boost did X Factor give you? Do you regret anything or wish you did anything differently?

Rough Copy: We don’t regret anything about being on the Xfactor apart from the whole losing a member drama, but on the flip side that made us stronger and more determined to prove our worth in the music / entertainment business. We made a lot of friends on stage and backstage, contestants and production crew, we would do it all again. X-Factor gave us a platform to be able to showcase our talent and show the world that RNB is still alive and getting more and more prominent in the music industry.

YDK: I’m sure the female fans would be very interested… are you all single?

Rough Copy: Yes apart from Kaz as he’s a family man.

YDK: What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

Rough Copy: Perfecting our craft and spending time with our loved ones.

YDK: What have been your biggest struggles in music so far?

Rough Copy: The biggest struggle in the music industry is not being able to make the music you love, music that got the attention from labels in the first place. We don’t believe in compromising your sound to sell records! If that was so, we would be lying to our fans and we like to keep it real. There’s not enough diversity in genres hence why we are fighting for the RNB cause; we call ourselves the #RNBAvengers

YDK: How would you describe your sound?

Rough Copy: Our sound is described as sweet but street. The sweet is the strong melodic soulful spine tingling vocals, the street is the edgier, gritty rough side of us and reminds us where we came from and how we started.

YDK: Lastly, YDK (Ya Don’t Know) is about educating people about things they “don’t know” whether music or otherwise. Do YOU know any interesting facts?

Rough Copy: The Music Industry is totally different to the Music Business.

Rough Copy’s upcoming single is called Same Formula and is available for preorder now on iTunes, available for download 3rd May. Catch the boys here:

YDK – Status interview with Adi Alfa

Above is the official Status interview that happened after the Omarion show with Musicalize a week ago. The beautiful and talented Adi Alfa interviewed the boys to see how they felt their performance went.

If YA DONT KNOW, ya do now ;)

Status support Omarion at Musicalize!!

If you weren’t there you missed out big time! The night was packed full of crazy talented artists and groups, but I must admit Status were the best by far. They killed that stage! They murdered it and then set it on fire. I’ve seen these 3 boys live before but never seen them perform like this; they really shone on a big stage and felt right at home up there receiving an incredible response from the audience who included the likes of Flawless and NangTV.
Their 10 minute set included Usher – Nice and Slow, Tyga and Chris Brown – Ayo, Montell Jordan – This is how we do it, two original tracks (one of which they brought out Mr. DJ Ironik for) and my personal favourite a Jessie J – Bang Bang and Chris Brown – Look at me now combo. Whilst some of the other acts could only fit around 3 tracks into their 10 minute set alongside lots of talking, Status played it smart and were able to show their diversity with their choice of tracks not only in genre but they put a few throwbacks in there and it wasn’t even a Thursday…
Their dancing was definitely a highlight with all 3 of them pulling off a flawless backflip to the beat (see video). On occasion the vocals were sacrificed but on the whole the performance was definitely very, very flawless, even with the intense choreography they still managed to get some sick harmonies in. Their clothing was simple but looked effective and somehow they still managed to look like a trio with subtle colour coordination (whether it was intentional or not).

Their set was so jam-packed with energy, they definitely deserved to be later on in the night as I know a large proportion of the audience showed up much later and missed their performance (their loss). I hope this was a huge platform for them and I only expect to see even bigger things from them. They are already like 3 mini Chris Browns so by the time they reach his levels, they’re going to be an unstoppable force.
The likes of Rasharn Powell, Courtney Bennett, Tanika and Rough Copy took to the stage after Status and in my opinion, despite sick vocals the energy and performance was not on the same level as Status.  Omarion OBVIOUSLYYYYY had everyone hyped.

YDK had the pleasure of award winning actress Adi Alfa interviewing 2/3 of Status after their show to get the gossip on how they think it went, their inspirations, celebrity crushes and more importantly whether they’re single or not!! 😉 The interview as well as sneak previews of their performance will be out on YDK’s YouTube by the end of the week so look out for it! In the mean time find the boys on:

Also look out for their upcoming video: “Get it” featuring DJ Ironik, shot and edited by NangTV.

R Jay – Don’t Leave (Omarion Cover/Acapella)

Inspired by the Shakkapellas from Shakka, R Jay does a beautiful cover of Omarion’s Don’t Leave. It’s been a hot minute since R Jay put a video out and it was well worth the wait. He’s been very busy writing and recording (not just for himself) so believe me when I say he’s got a lot of good music coming!

If YA DONT KNOW, ya do now ;)

Jamm Tyme (J Flo) – M.I.A. (Cover)

Jamm Tyme‘s J Flo covers Omarion, siiiiiiiick! Oi Jamm Tyme are sooo underrated you just dont understand

If YA DONT KNOW, ya do now ;)

Mainey – M.I.A. (Cover)

Mainey covers Omarion & Wale’s track VERY nicely, but we can’t expect any less from him can we?

If YA DONT KNOW, ya do now 😉

  • [Thought of the Week]

"Maybe cheating in a relationship isn't the worst thing you could do, maybe it's just human nature?"

Remember when you were a child, and your parents would tell you you're not allowed to eat sweets, or make a mess in your bedroom, and you'd do the complete opposite and crave it even more just because you're not allowed? Or if you're on a diet, you know you're not allowed cake or carbs, but simply because you know you're not allowed it, you want it even more? Well surely the same applies in relationships?
Firstly, I want to start by saying we're not perfect, but perfection is something we should strive towards. Honesty is the best policy.
A friend of mine is genuinely one of the loveliest people I know, with the best heart and the best intentions and I don't want to show him in a negative light whatsoever, simply provide you with an alternative idea. I've known him for a few years, however we only started speaking properly about a year ago. We both found each other attractive, blah blah blah, so we decided to book a hotel room. He ignored me for a few days, so obviously something was wrong, then he told me there's another girl he loves (obviously I didn't know this before), as they weren't together. I didn't think much of it, actually I was extremely envious of this girl, and that she has someone in her life that is so dedicated and faithful. A few months later, conversation escalated, and we once again decided to go hotel, and a few days beforehand he once again cancelled. This time I was pretty angry and upset, because he'd lead me on and then cancelled. Obviously we're not together but I'm my own person too at the end of the day and don't want to be lead on.
Another few months later we started talking, innocent conversation about gym, films etc (this time via dm on twitter as I deleted his number and vice versa, I assume), and I had calmed down over the previous incident, he was a genuinely lovely person and I admire the faithfulness to his yet to be girlfriend, I hope I find someone like that in the future. But anyway, we decided to have a gym session together, as we live near each other we went to the park, and for the majority of it, it was a really good session, fun, productive (my legs KILLED the following day) but there was sexual tension, especially towards the end. My back was super sore from gym the previous day and he offered a massage, it was rubbish and he didn't get very far unfortunately as he was starting to give in, and couldn't resist the attraction any longer. Not a lot happened as I stopped him, before it escalated too far. I'd hate for my future husband to cheat on me, so I could only give this couple the same respect (they were together a few months at this point). The following day he thanked me, and was grateful for stopping him.
The point of this example is, I know my friend loves his girlfriend very much but none of us are perfect and we all give in to temptation now and again. Many males/females cheat because they have a craving, and a hoe gets in the way that has no respect for the relationship and only wants his/ her needs fulfilled, few will have a conscience and stop anything

Alternatively, on a separate occasion I was speaking to another friend about this topic. He told me that he's seen a sidechick/man save many relationships. His reasons were that if you have an argument with your partner, instead of ending the relationship, you go to see a sidechick/man, relax, then go back to your partner happy and proceed as normal. I disagree with his reasoning however I see the point behind it.
As long as you don't make a habit out of temptation, and are honest... maybe we're too extreme when it comes to cheating? I disagree with cheating, and don't condone it, however this is just a thought. Everyone get's bored of everything eventually if you get too high a dose, it's just a matter of balance.
